so would you say ich habe katzenjammer? oder "ich bin katzenjammer"?

Hallo Mat,

While "Katzenjammer" does mean 'hangover', it also means 'the blues/depression'. "Ich habe Katzenjammer" would more likely be translated as "I'm depressed". The usual term for "I have a hangover" is "Ich habe einen Kater" ("der Kater" is "male cat/tomcat" – another 'animal' expression :)) or "Ich bin verkatert" (I'm hungover). However, you might say "der Katzenjammer danach" which means "the morning after the night before".
