    Re: Wer als Nächster schreibt...

  2. Re: Difficult sentence to understand - help me, please

Ja, auch in der englischen Sprache haben wir Paralipsen. Vielleicht: "But with regard to German politics, I'm not saying anything."

    Es wäre getan worden

I wonder if your second sentence might be better as "Wenn ich das gewusst hätte ...".

  4. Re: hallo from Germany. Germany native speaker is looking for an English native speak

The fact that there are many other forms of expression which could be called English is no excuse for having told sokrates that he was wrong to say "I have lived" or "now I am realizing", or that he...
  5. Re: hallo from Germany. Germany native speaker is looking for an English native speak

@Backpacker: I don't know what sort of English you are teaching him, but the way we speak it in the UK (which is what sokrates is trying not to forget):

No, there was nothing wrong with "I...
  6. Re: Difficult sentence to understand - help me, please

If you mean "Die Aufpasser", then the sentence seems to be, "Was aber die deutsche Politik angeht, so will ich nichts gesagt haben". Which hopefully makes it easier to understand?

    Grammatically...

Re: Help with translation, please .

Danke, behe. Ich hatte "wettmachen" vergessen.

Ich meinte nicht, dass es eine sehr seltene Form des Imperativs wäre, sondern eine sehr seltene Form von "wett" im Sinne von "quitt". Ich dachte...

Re: Help with translation, please .

Don't use "wette". Normally the compound words use "Wett". But websites using the sort of names you're thinking of seem to prefer "Wetten" - e.g. Wetten247. Either way you should give it a capital W...

Re: Help with translation, please .

If you're doing translation, you really shouldn't consider words individually. The meaning very often depends on the context. For example:

    wett:
In a sentence such as "Wir sind wett", it could be...

    Re: Wer als nächstes schreibt...

Ja, ich hätte gern einen neuen Rechner, vielleicht einen Flachrechner.

Wer als Nächster schreibt empfindet gerade Schadenfreude und fragt sich, warum es kein englisches Wort dafür gibt.

I don't think ordinary mortals like me are allowed in other people's threads in the tutorial folders. And it's rather difficult to correct anyway. You really need to learn more about word order and...

    Re: syllable in German

The dictionary really can't be supposed to be using the dots to indicate syllables. Or at least not all syllables. There can't be so many printing errors. Does the dictionary have a foreword or...

    Re: syllable in German

If the dictionary thinks that "Handlung" and "Obdach" have only one syllable, then it has a very strange idea of syllables! I would suggest that either they are printing errors, or else the dots are...
