The grammar books tend to say that you're always supposed to use subjunctive forms for reported speech. Although people quite often don't bother, especially when talking rather than writing.
But the sentences you quoted don't seem to be particularly straightforward examples of the principle of using subjunctives for reported speech. If you've been asked to do the exercise without having first had the grammar explained to you together with such things as the different types of subjunctive and the use of "würde"+infinitive, then I suspect that maybe you're supposed to just work by analogy from the examples and not worry too much about "why".
