About this song:
This catchy classic tune comes from a 1930 German film: Die Drei von der Tankstelle, starring Lilian Harvey and Heinz Rühmann. The German composer Werner R. Heymann (1896-1961), who wrote this song, worked for Germany's famous UFA studios and later went to Hollywood to escape the Nazis. American films for which he did musical work include: Ninotchka (1939, musical score), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), Topper Returns (1941), To Be or Not to Be (1942), and Knickerbocker Holiday (1944). The director of Die Drei von der Tankstelle, Wilhelm Thiele (1890-1975), also went to Hollywood, where he directed two Tarzan pictures in 1943 and later 26 episodes of the Lone Ranger TV series (1954-1955). His 1930 film was the first German musical, and is considered a forerunner of later Hollywood musical movies.
