About this Song:
“Soundso” is the title song from the Wir sind Helden album of the same name. The song became the theme of the album: How we see ourselves and how others see us — in other words, how we frame our identity. Do you know so-and-so? The German word can be like a person’s name: Soundso. (Have you seen What's-her-name?) All the songs in the album deal with various aspects of coping with daily life.
Because the song “Soundso” contains so many plays on words and idiomatic expressions, it is difficult to translate. The title expression “soundso,” itself can mean "so-and-so," "such-and-such," or "that way." The word “bestimmt” is used in one line as a verb (to define/determine), and in the next as an adverb (certainly, for certain).
