   the 2000s (2000-2009, "the zero years"), the naughties (Br. slang), the first decade of the 21st century

Nun zum Ende der Nullerjahre ist der Lack ab, das Auto ist zum Gebrauchsgegenstand verkommen.
Now at the end of the 2000s, the novelty has worn off. The car has been reduced to an item of practical use.
Die Nullerjahre, wenn wir das Jahrzehnt so nennen wollen, war die Dekade, in der das Internet in der Mitte der Gesellschaft ankam.
