   drift (snow, sand, etc.)

Offensichtlich nicht die Schneemenge, sondern die Verwehungen waren letzte Nacht das Problem.
Apparently the problem last night wasn’t the amount of snow, but the snow drifts.
Zudem seien etliche Schneeverwehungen noch nicht geräumt worden, so dass Busse nicht an ihre Ziele gelangen könnten.
In addition, quite a few snow drifts hadn’t been cleared yet, so that buses couldn’t get to their destinations.
Wir sahen schöne Verwehungen im Sand.
We saw beautiful drifts in the sand.
