negative reply, refusal (of an invitation), rejection (of job candidate), rejection notice; closing announcement (radio, opposite of Ansage)
absagen (v.i./t.)
to cancel, call off; decline, refuse (an invitation), send one's regrets, turn down, say one can't come; reject
Die Meiers haben abgesagt.
The Meiers won't be coming. (…have declined our invitation.)
