*The German Einstandsfeier custom is governed by a few informal rules. The new employee usually throws her/his own welcome party no later than a week or two after starting a new job – in order to informally meet the new co-workers. It may be a small buffet at the office or an invitation for a round of drinks (der Umtrunk) at a nearby pub. But the new employee needs to know the "acceptable practices" at the new company and the "right people" to invite.
