   civil engineering/construction (roads, tunnels, bridges, sewer/water/gas lines)*
der Hochbau (no pl.)
   structural engineering/construction (large/tall buildings, towers)*

*Tiefbau refers to structures, roads or installations below or at ground level. Hochbau refers to structures or installations above the ground, usually rising at least several levels above the ground.

Schweizer Baubranche im Aufwind: Die Produktion im Hochbau legte um 3,1 Prozent zu, jene im Tiefbau um 4,4 Prozent.
Swiss construction industry on the upswing: Building projects increased by 3.1 percent, those for roads and infrastructure by 4.4 percent.
Dass der Tiefbau auch heuer leicht stagniert, ist an sich keine Überraschung.
That infrastructure construction is slightly stagnant again this year is in itself no surprise.
