The house stood at the edge of the city.
Wir haben lange dort gestanden.*
We were standing (waiting) there for a long time.

*In Austrian and Swiss German, and in southern German dialects, sein is used as the helping verb for gestanden: Ich bin gestanden. - Wir sind gestanden.
