   (univ./college, school) cafeteria, canteen, dining hall; all-purpose room; Mensa organization
   Like many German university/student terms, this one also comes from Latin – in this case the Latin word for table or counter.

Wir essen heute in der Mensa.
Today we’re eating in the school canteen.
Eine Mensa ist zentraler Punkt der Schulgemeinschaften und ein wichtiger Kommunikationsort.
A dining hall is the central point for school groups and an important place for communication.
Die am 15. November 1925 eröffnete Alte Mensa in Dresden ist die älteste Mensa in Deutschland.
The Old Canteen in Dresden, which opened on 15 November 1925, is the oldest [university] canteen in Germany.
