If you have some chat experience, are 18 years or older, are reasonably fluent in English and German, enjoy chatting, and would like to help others learn German via chat, you could become one of our volunteer chat moderators!

What does a chat moderator do? A chat host or moderator schedules and hosts chat sessions for people interested in using our chat room to learn German and practice using it. He or she also makes sure that our chat room rules are enforced and that chatters are not causing problems or being rude. A typical schedule offers sessions for both advanced and beginning learners (at different times). We try to have at least three sessions per week, with more if possible, depending on how many chat hosts we have. See the current chat schedule for an example. Of course, each chat moderator sets up chat times that suit him/her and allow both European and North American chatters to chat at convenient times (usually in the afternoon or evening). We like to have at least one chat session per week at a time suitable to both Europe and North America (and a few other continents).

Chat moderators can be located anywhere in the world. All that is required is a computer and an internet connection. Hosts also keep logs (recorded automatically for each session) and make periodical informal reports to the webmaster about how chat is going.

At the current time this is a volunteer, unpaid position. However, if we can attract enough chatters into our chat room to warrant it, moderators could later earn a modest monthly honorarium and/or receive periodical rewards, such as an Amazon.com or Amazon.de gift certificate. But at this time, being a chat host is a volunteer job.
